Using Linkpen join fonts with Adobe InDesign

Linkpen fonts use the OpenType feature Contextual Alternates to produce the joins. The type of substitution used within the font is one to many (multiple substitution), which is also used in certain Middle Eastern languages. In most software, the joining will work correctly straight away, but in InDesign you may have to change some settings.
1. Check that OpenType Contextual Alternates are enabled
Open the Character panel (Command+T on Mac, Alt+T on Windows), or select Character from the Type menu. Make sure that there is a tick next to Contextual Alternates.
Once you’ve enabled Contextual Alternates, the single substitution joins will work (letter combinations re, ve, we, oe), but the rest of the joins will not.
2. Change the Paragraph to “World-Ready”
Open the Paragraph panel (Command+ Option+T on Mac, Ctrl+Alt+T on Windows), or select Character from the Type menu. Click the “hamburger” menu at the top right of the Paragraph panel and set the paragraph to World-Ready Paragraph Composer.
This will enable the multiple substitutions so that all of the joins will now work correctly.

If you cannot access the World-Ready Paragraph settings, you may need to update your InDesign software by following the steps here: https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/indesign/kb/access-install-hebrew-arabic-indesign-illustrator-CC.html.
